In 2018, developer Robert Ehrhardt reached out about making a refreshed, professional icon for his password management app, Password Safe. Throughout the process, we had a few solid directions to choose from and eventually tested each of the final concepts to help make the final decisions.
I started directly in Figma and we immediately came upon a few concepts that were worthy of exploring. Primarily, I worked on an icon with a vault handle, a dial for a safe, a lock, and a keychain. Here's a glimpse inside the process with a few iterations on the final four concepts that we tested.
In 2019, Robert was looking for an illustration to showcase alongside the icon. He had some examples of work he enjoyed, and we decided to work on a 3D, isometric-style illustration embracing elements of the icon explorations and other standard iconography to depict the app's functions. The idea was to convey the idea of having multiple locks and keys for different passwords, with a new key being generated alongside the other locks and keys. I accomplished this using extended shapes, elevation, and color to create hierarchy and emphasis.
You can download Password Safe on the Play Store and the iOS App Store.
